ISO 50001. Energy management

ISO 50001 defines the requirements for an energy management system and can be used by any organization that looks to improve its energy use performance by reducing consumption and costs.

RIGCERT provides ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems certification to help your company improve its energy performance and demonstrate the commitment to reduce energy consumption.

Energy management

Energy is a critical resource for many businesses and it usually represents a significant cost.

Global energy consumption has more than doubled in the last 40 years and current predictions speak of a 30% rise until 2030.

At the same time energy production and use account for approximately 2/3 of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – considered the main cause of climate change.

Improving energy use efficiency brings benefits to both the organizations implementing the measures and the communities they belong to. Decreased costs, preservation of limited natural resources and tackling climate change are among the most obvious.

ISO 50001 standard

ISO 50001 is meant to help companies develop a management system that will serve as a tool to reduce energy consumption, associated costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The standard is focused on several aspects like performing an energy review, defining an energy baseline and energy performance indicators.

ISO 50001 requires to demonstrate constantly the improvement of energy performance, but the actions and targets to achieve this objective are up to every organization.

Another objective of the energy management system is to enable companies to find opportunities to reduce energy consumption involving the staff in this process.

ISO 50001 certification

ISO 50001 is applicable to any organization regardless of size and activity that wishes to use energy more efficiently, to reduce energy related costs, to look for alternatives to fossil fuels and improve its reputation by demonstrating  a responsible approach to business.

Certification is the confirmation of the organization commitment to improve its energy performance.

ISO 50001 can be implemented and certified independently or integrated with other management system standards, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 being among the most popular choices.
