Social responsibility is the concept that requires organizations to be involved in the life of the community, embrace their social responsibilities and develop a good relationship with the society in which they operate. There is a growing pressure around the world for a socially responsible behavior from organizations as the involvement in the welfare of the society and environment is a becoming a measure of performance.

To operate in a socially responsible way an organization needs to act in an ethical and transparent way that will contribute to the health and welfare of the society. The overall aim is to increase shareholders trust, to improve public relations, reduce the legal risks and in the long term increase profits and improve position and image on the market.

There are a number of standards and schemes elaborated to provide guidance for the implementation of social responsibility principles like for example ISO 26000 that cannot be used for certification and only serves as a guidelines for any organization that intends to support sustainable development in their community.

Most of the social responsibility schemes and standards refer to a number of common aspects that include: labor practices and prevention of child and forced labor, health and safety issues, prevention of discrimination, respecting economic, cultural and social rights of employees, involvement in the protection of the environment and promoting fair operating practices.

RIG CERT has developed a system to evaluate the implementation of social responsibility principles by the organization as well as their integration in the general management system.
